Another Balfour Declaration

History repeats itself—do you recall the infamous Balfour Declaration, when Britain during World War I pledged support for a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine? It was, as many said, a promise from those who had no right to give, to those who had no rightful claim. And yesterday, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado played a similar role when she bestowed upon Trump her own version of a “Nobel Peace Prize”—a prize he long coveted, even to the point of igniting wars just to claim he ended them.

Norway, unsurprisingly, is embarrassed. The prize’s reputation has already been tarnished, especially after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed won it in 2019, only to plunge his country into a devastating civil war in Tigray within a year, leaving hundreds of thousands dead.

The moral of this chaos? Our world floats atop a poisoned lake, surviving in the illusion of order while drowning in concealed disorder.

 ما أشبه الليلية بالبارحة هل تتذكرون وَعْدُ بَلفُور الذي أصدرته الحكومة البريطانيّة خلال الحرب العالمية الأولى لإعلان دعم تأسيس «وطن قوميّ للشعب اليهوديّ» في فلسطين إنه "وعد من لا يملك لمن لا يستحق" وهذا بالضبط ما فعلته زعيمة المعارضة الفنزويلية ماريا كورينا ماتشادو بالأمس حينما منحت ترامب جائزتها "نوبل للسلام" التي كان يسعها للحصول عليها بشتى الطرق لدرجة أنه أنشئ حروب من العدم من أجل إنهائها. 

 طبعًا النرويج مستاءة تشعر بالخزي، خاصة بعد السمعة السيئة التي لحقت بالجائزة خاصة عقب فوز رئيس الوزراء الإثيوبي آبي أحمد بالجائزة عام 2019، وبعد 12 شهراً فقط، تورط في حرب أهلية في إقليم تيجراي، أسفرت عن سقوط مئات الآلاف من الضحايا. 

خلاصة هذا العبث هو العالم يعوم فوق بحيرة فاسدة تعيش في أجواء من الفوضى المقنعة
